(HOW) to install windows xp step by step

Microsoft Windows XP is a popular operating system for personal computers, media centers, notebook computers and workstations. You can install Windows XP as a clean operating system copy or by upgrading from an existing version of Windows like Windows 98 SE. You should always maintain an updated data backup when you upgrade your operating system or opt for a clean reinstall. By using an up-to-date backup, you can restore all lost data post events like Windows XP upgrade failure, partition deletion, accidental/erroneous disk format operation, power failure and more. If you lose data and no valid data backup is available, you can use commercial data recovery software for complete recovery.
Consider a situation, you try to install Windows XP and it fails with an error message as:
“STOP: 0×0000000A (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
*** Address x has base at x – filename”
Where, parameter1, parameter2, parameter3 and parameter4 refer to incorrectly referenced address, required IRQL, type of access, and address of instruction referencing memory in parameter1respectively. You may also get this error message after installing Windows XP. It is specific to Windows XP Professional and Home Edition.
Cause
It occurs when system attempts to touch pageable memory at too high a process IRQL (Interrupt Request Level). It happens in kernel mode due to these reasons:
- Driver utilizes an incorrect memory address
- Incompatible device driver or software
- Hardware issues
Solution
If you encounter the above error while installing Windows XP, you need to follow these steps:
- Make sure that installed hardware components are compatible with Windows XP
- Specify HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) during installation startup using F5 during the startup of installation
- Try to turn off some features in CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) settings
- Verify RAM
- Try removing adapters and disconnecting hardware devices
- Update drivers
- Go for a clean installation of Windows XP and restore data from backup
If this problem arises after installing Windows XP, use these methods:
- If you have recently installed any third-party hardware or software, try removing or disabling them
- Restore system to Last Known Good Configuration
- Try to repair Windows XP installation
- If Safe Mode is working, use Rollback Driver feature
- If Safe Mode is working, use Windows XP System Restore
- Try renaming problematic software or driver
- Restore Windows using Recovery Console
- Reformat the hard disk and use recent data backup to restore the data.
If after reformatting the hard disk, you discover that backup is not up-to-date or is unable to deliver expected results, you need to choose efficient hard drive recovery utilities to recover all lost data. These hard disk recovery tools are designed to safely scan your drive and recover lost files.

Is it easy to install Windows XP on a new hard disk?My old hard disk with Windows XP on it crapped out, and I do not want to reinstall and fix it myself. I am planning to buy a new hard disk and install windows XP from the same CD that I used to install XP on my old Hard disk. Will there be any Problems? Will there be prompts for any drivers?

ROFLCOPTER! xD
Ubuntu is shit. Keep your anti-Microsoft garbage to yourself. I’ll stick with an operating system that has tons of software support. Moron.
Just get XAMPP and don't invent the bicyle
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html
XAMPP does exactly that – i.e. integrates Apache, MySQL and PHP in one convenient package that is easy to install and manage.
I looked up this model on the Internet. I would contact either HP or a local computer shop that can order and install a CD drive. This will solve your initial problem of loading Windows. and any other software down the line.
dis is not a proper installation, you dont have a partition yet!!!!
Press DELETE instead, some bios are like that.

Go to http://www.support.microsoft.com. It is a good site for obtaining this information.
There's a lot of details you haven't said. Did this computer originally come with Windows XP, and you're trying to restore it to factory original condition? If so, do you have a restore disc for it? Then insert the restore disc, reboot the computer, and follow the instructions from the program on the disc. If it came with XP but you don't have a restore disc for it, then call the manufacturer to find out how to obtain it or other backup of the original software.
If it didn't come with XP, or no backup software is available, then do you have a legal copy of Windows XP to install on it? Have you checked the specifications of the computer to be sure it is compatible with Windows XP? (You don't mention how old it is, so this could be a problem.) If you have a copy of Windows XP for it, then insert the disc in the disc drive, reboot, and follow the instructions for the install program. … if you don't understand the instructions, or if the computer won't boot from the CD/DVD drive, then I would suggest either calling someone to help you, or purchasing a copy of "Windows XP for Dummies" or another basic computer how-to book, to learn.
If you don't have a copy of Windows XP for it, and the manufacturer doesn't have backup software available, then you're kind of stuck; Microsoft isn't selling XP anymore. You'll have to either stay with what's on the computer, or purchase a currently available operating system, like Windows Vista (assuming that it's compatible with your computer).
You can go to the website of the manufacturer of your computer and hope that they offer Windows XP compatible drivers for your computer.
Please, make sure you do the following before you proceed.
(1) Determine whether you have 'restore' CDs that can completely restore your computer to its original factory settings OR your computer has a 'hidden' partition that provides this function.
Make sure you've done whatever is necessary to ensure that you can restore you computer if you need to do so.
(2) Acquire all the appropriate Windows XP compatible drivers and burn them to recordable CD or store them on a USB flash drive.
(3) Download the Windows XP Service Pack 2 and/or Service Pack 3 (whichever you prefer) and save it to removable media.
SP2, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en
SP3,
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en
(4) Determine what protective software you want to use to protect your computer from the dastardly villains on the Internet, download the installers for that software, and save them to removable media.
If you're going the free (gratis) route, here are some tools that may benefit you.
. . . (i) SpywareBlaster,
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html
. . . (ii) SUPERAntiSpyware,
http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE
. . . (iii) Spybot S&D,
http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html
. . . (iv) AVG Free AntiVirus (or comparable),
http://free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe
. . . (v) ZoneAlarm Free Firewall (or comparable),
http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp
(5) If stripping your computer of Windows Vista is also going to eradicate all the bundled software that came with the computer, you will need some 'productivity' software for those instances when you need to be 'productive'.
The following are all 'free' tools (gratis and libre). Choose the ones that you think you might want, download their installers, and save those installers to removable media.
. . . (i) OpenOffice.org,
http://download.openoffice.org/other.html
. . . (ii) AbiWord,
http://www.abisource.com/download/
. . . (iii) 7-Zip,
http://www.7-zip.org/
. . . (iv) Adobe Acrobat Reader,
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions_nojs1.html
. . . (v) Adobe Flash Player,
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
. . . (vi) The GIMP for Windows,
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-win/gimp-2.4.7-i686-setup.exe
(6) You may want to use non-Microsoft tools on the Web, like Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird, and/or Seamonkey. Download the installers for the programs that you think you may want, and save them to removable media.
Firefox and Thunderbird are here,
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/
Sunbird is here,
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird/
Seamonkey is here,

Now all you need to do is set your computer's BIOS to boot from the CD drive, pop the Windows XP installation CD into the CD drive, and reboot.
Watch closely, because you need to pay attention during the first minute of the boot process to make sure that you 'press any key to boot from the CD . . . '
Evenutally, the Windows XP Installation Wizard will get to a point where it will ask you where you want to install Windows XP. If you have followed the advice in item #1, you can safely repartition the hard drive as you please, then choose which partition you wish Windows XP to reside on.
From that point, it's really just a matter of reading 8th grade level English information and prompts.
When the installation of Windows XP is completed on your computer (if your copy of Windows XP has SP2 integrated into it), you may decide to upgrade it to SP3 with the installer that you downloaded in item #3.
After that, you should install drivers, protective software, and any other software that you have elected to install — before you ever connect your computer to the Internet.
U haven't mentioned configuration of your machine. May be its slow because it has less RAM, or insufficient swap space, or a close to death HDD or a slow processor.
Let's hope not so. The following are the steps.
1> Enter your cmos setup by hitting DEL key during computer start up. Make sure that the CD drive is the first in the boot order.
2>Insert winxp cd in your cd drive and restart computer. It will boot from the cd.
3> It seems u r a novice. So keep the partitions as it is and choose to install on your c drive. Just choose to format the c drive before installation. For the rest follow on screen instructions.
4>If u do not know what is cmos setup, boot order, disk partitioning, formatting etc. then call a hardware guy.
