You are usually better off getting the Toshiba branded power supply. Your notebook may not function at full speed or may not charge your battery properly with a non-brand. Most notebook computers have protections built in that make sure you are using the right adapter for the notebook.
Actually, there isn’t a big difference between an original brand and a non-brand laptop ac adapter. In other words, original brand is more expensive because it literally comes “branded.” Any other genuine original manufacture compatible ac adapter should work your laptop. Moreover, only Dell laptops have the function to “recognize” original brand ac adapters.
I don’t think it is a good idea to buy a refurbished Toshiba replacement, though. The reason why you are replacing an ac adapter is because you old “Toshiba ac adapter” has broken, right? The refurbished one that you are considering only comes with a 30-day guarantee. I don’t think it’s worth the try. However, the really ac adapters that you found from places like ebay, amazon, and etc. do not come with a good warranty for their customers. I would say that warranty policies are also another thing to consider when purchasing ac adapters. I would not recommend a $8 replacement with a one-year guarantee. My dad has bought a $8 ac adapter before, it got overheated one day and burned up his entire battery. However, the seller told him that they would not do anything about the damage although they could send him another of those crappy ac adapters.
Personally, I would recommend buying from http://www.topmic.com
That’s where I bought my replacement ac adapter after the incident that happened to my dad. They are much more reliable sellers with a very helpful customer service. Yes, it is more expensive compare to the $8 and $16 ones, however, it is a very reasonable price that comes with a lifetime warranty and a free shipping.
Hope this helps! Best of luck!
