one would assume there cheap like every other company on the face of the earth and just replace parts, so in time somthing else will break. go with the new one.

  4. When apple is selling a refurbished computer, 99% of the time it means that someone just returned the computer after opening it so they can no longer sell it as new. Buying a refurb is actually a good idea because it means that the computer was shipped to apple, fully inspected, repackaged and then shipped to you, so you know that you are getting a working computer rather than one that just machines have touched. It still has the full warranty that a brand new computer does. I totally recommend refurbished computers. Save the money.

  5. In principle, there is no reason not to buy from the refurb store – I have done so many times before and will do so again.

The hardware comes with the same 12month warranty that new hardware does, usually the only difference is the packaging.

I did have a laptop come from the refurb store where the bluetooth wasn’t working – A quick call to Apple, they sent a courier for it, fixed it and returned it to me within 3 days, and the laptop then went on to work flawlessly for over 5 years before I eventually sold it (fully working, and even with a couple of hours of battery life still) earlier this year.

Things to watch out for is that, especially around now where there’s been a recent update to the laptop range, that you’re not buying the older version (or, if you are, that it’s at a price worth doing).

Each listed product will also detail exactly what you are getting, in terms of hardware and software – you might find you’re getting more than you bargained for.

As a side note, and certainly not something to be expecting but is nice to happen, I know several people who have purchased items from the refurb store and received a better-than-expected machine, thus saving even more than the 20% or so they were expecting.

  6. I have had this decision to make before as well, if I were you I would go with a refurbished one. Apple don’t sell them unless they are in really good condition (and i mean almost spotless!), Most of the time a refurbished Mac is simply the original innards put in a new casing. I assume all iMacs come with Snow leopard now, if not its only £25 =] and it makes everything super smooth and fast. Either way, as its a 2009 laptop it will have at least Leopard 10.5. In terms of speed, your laptop should perform exactly as a brand new one would of the same spec, any less and you can get it replaced or repaired at the apple store. Hope that helped you make your decision =]
