I just need something not too old but really inexpensive. My old one broke and I need one for class.

   It's quiet and works well to cool down my laptop. If the crashes on your laptop are heat-related then this one should help.

    What's his range? Also, what are you going to be using the computer for–games, internet, etc?

    I've found that whenever I want my parents to buy me something it works best when I present reasonable and well-thought out reasoning for why they should get me something, and show them that I've done the research and spent time looking into whatever it is I want. For example, you could go to your dad and explain to him why you should have a computer, show him computers in his price range, and show him reviews you've found (check out reviews.cnet.com, pcmag.com, compreviews.about.com).

    Note: all computers are upgradable, just some are not economical to upgrade. Increasing physical memory is the easiest upgrade and economical. Changing the hard drive is next (to a more capacity unit and faster). One of the more expensive upgrades is changing the motherboard (because normally you need to change the CPU, Memory, audio and video cards to match the upgrade.

    You may need to take it apart and dust the heat sink because dust collects heat you may need to look online for a manual to do this though. I cleaned out my fathers hp pavilion tower and it reports to be running 126% cooler. You need to dust it out every 2 years. To remove the dust you use a can of compressed air or and air compresser.
