Windows Xp Slow Startup – Want to Fix a Windows Xp Slow Startup?

Do you notice that the older our computers get, the slower it takes to start them up? We don’t have Mac’s, so therefore we get stuck with a slow Windows startup. But there is actually a way to speed up computer start time. The answer is in the Windows XP registry. Follow this advice and you won’t have to deal with a Windows XP slow startup again.
The Windows XP registry is the most important directory in your computer. It contains information on how to run every single program on your CPU. And this includes all the programs running on startup.
All those programs we delete or uninstall are actually not completely removed from our system. There will still be registry entries to run the program at startup. And when we start our computers up, the computer is trying to run programs that don’t exist. This is a major cause of or slow XP startup times.
There are also many programs that run upon every XP startup that we don’t need. Even some you wouldn’t know about since they hide from the taskbar. All this does is cause a slow PC startup and adds to the overall sluggishness of your computer. It eats up valuable RAM that could be used elsewhere.
Since there is no internal program that can clean your system, you need to scan your computer with Windows XP registry cleaners. Not only can an XP registry cleaner fix all those nasty registry errors, it can also detail every single program running at startup. It will then give you the option to remove them. Doing this should cut your XP startup in half.
Don’t take my word for it, scan your computer for free and try it yourself. You don’t have to deal with a Windows XP slow startup. Take action today, and speed up your computer the easy way!

Use CRTL-ALT-DELETE to see which programs are running in the background. If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.
First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:
1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".
3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.
4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.
5. Click OK.
3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:
1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK"
to make vista start up faster just go to the start and search up “msconfig” and go to boot and click on advanced and select 2 cores, vista originally starts up on one core.
you can get free software for these from

You need to re-format your hard drive and reinstall the operating system. This will erase everything including all the spyware and viruses. This is only way to make your computer CLEAN. Now after that, first thing u need to do is after you clean eveything is install window updates, next install an antivirus software to protect your computer from future spywares and viruses (trust me, you need one!!) This should fix this problem and all your spywares and viruses problems in the future. Vote me best answer : -)

no. most new ones over 80 gb use flash drives.
Damn, you have one crappy computer.
Do you have a lot of background programs running like msn messenger, explorer, anti virus, printer/scanner/digital camera programs/drivers etc(icons that you see at the lower right of your screen)? Normally these will eat up your memory causing your Windows PC or Internet to slow down.

When you open my computer and there is a delay it is usually because it is searching for networked printers and computers. If you are not on a network you can fix this by going to tools > folder options > and uncheck search for shared printers and computers.
If you want to speed up your computers start up, press the windows key + R, when the run command appears, type in msconfig. click on the start up tab and uncheck any programs that you so not need to run at startup. Chances are that you do not need things like Adobe turning on when the computer does.
Also, you can increase start up times by turning off the float screen (the windows xp logo when the computer is turning on) by clicking the boot.ini tab and unchecking GUI boot. Click OK, then restart. Upon logging back in, you will be greeted with a dialog window. If ever thing is running normally, check the box at the bottom of the window and press ok.
Hope this helps!
did u defrag it?
Eee PC is faster because it uses SSD
There are processes running and there are programs running after you start up the computer.
To see what Programs start – Click on Start then on RUN and type MSCONFIG in the text box and click on OK.
When the System Configuration Utility opens select the STARTUP tab – This is a list of all the PROGRAMS that start when the PC starts. Untick all of them except your AntiVirus and AntiSPY ware programs. Click Ok and Reboot your PC. This should speed things up.
Failing that you should add some more RAM and do a very good virus check.
IF you want to see what Processes are running – you need to open TASK Manager and look at the Processes Tab.
Ctl-Alt-Del or right click on the Task Bar.
